Wyndeham Group News > Wyndeham emagine: Next Generation Publishing System
16th October 2006
The Wyndeham Press Group today announced the launch of emagine, its next generation, on-line publishing system. emagine is the latest incarnation of Wyndeham’s original Zamba flatplanning system which has been upgraded by Wyndeham Pre-Press software engineers and incorporates all the existing Zamba capabilities plus a host of new features.
emagine is suitable for the production of magazines, catalogues and brochures of any size, and pagination, and existing users include both large blue chip national consumer press publishers and smaller publishers alike. The system enables any publisher to manage the entire production process of their publication - from the initial planning stage through to the creation of final print ready PDF’s. All files are pre-flight checked automatically by the system with user warnings and full error reporting.
Because the system is internet based it can be accessed by any computer anywhere in the world, 24/7, given that the user is authorised and has the appropriate login and password information. A new feature of emagine enables authorised users access to emagine and i-base, Wyndeham's digital brand asset management system, with a single log in.
Soft proofing tools built into the system enable users to view and annotate pages on screen in 'live' sessions which can be viewed simultaneously by both the publisher and operators at Wyndeham Pre-Press. Monitor profiles can be applied at the commencement of each live session.
emagine has the capability to display every aspect of the planning and production process. Live, interactive, flatplans of every page within a publication can be viewed online, with the ability to email low-res PDF’s to selected recipients.
The system is also able to generate host information - from the latest page to RIP right through to the ratio of approved to non-approved pages. By arrangement, all previous issues of a publication are accessible from the system 24/7. This includes all data, flatplans and date information.
emagine is simple to use and requires minimal training. Following login users will be presented with a personalised entry screen featuring their logo, name and any other information they wish to be displayed. Following a logical series of steps, the user can quickly book in their publication including both editorial, full page ads and classified ads. An ad repeat facility enables ads from previous issues to be quickly introduced to the current publication. emagine is able to identify every occurrence of a particular ad or campaign across all issues stored in the system and identifies the issue and folio in which it appears, and allows the user to preview the ad at full size.
Should a publisher require additional or specific requirements, bespoke versions can be quickly developed. For example, the system is able to access and process data automatically from publisher’s own databases. Drag and drop capability enables users to easily repaginate a publication without the need to re-enter data.
The new version, emagine now allows users to upload their assets with their original file names which are then converted automatically by the system. The benefit of this capability is that the complete assets for each page are stored on the Wyndeham Pre-Press secure servers, enabling full asset management and the important capability of rapid page re-supply by Wyndeham Pre-Press to printers 24/7 as required.
emagine will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2006 and because its software is completely engineered and authored by Wyndeham Pre-Press software engineers, it is not subject to third party software updates or patches, thus ensuring guaranteed, uninterrupted production. The databases at the heart of the system will reside within the Wyndeham Pre-Press secure data centre with regular back-ups to a reserve server.
