Wyndeham Group News > Publishing Focus for Wyndeham Impact
26th April 2007
The Wyndeham Press Group has today announced a proposal to restructure the Wyndeham Impact web offset business in Basingstoke, and to focus primarily on the production of high quality magazine covers and supplements for the publishing industry.
The proposal includes a press upgrading programme which will boost Wyndeham Impact’s cover printing capacity by over 30%. This will see a sixth colour printing unit added to the M600 16pp web press and an additional UV varnishing unit, providing Wyndeham Impact with two high speed cover presses, both with six units and both with UV varnishing facilities. The company is also continuing to develop its colour management software to further improve the link between production standards at Wyndeham Pre-Press and Wyndeham Heron, thereby ensuring colour consistency across cover and text pages. As part of the proposal the Group intends to decommission its Heidelberg 8pp 5 colour web press which has been operational since 1995.
Should the proposal go ahead the Group regrets that there will be a number of redundancies and the management is now entering into a period of consultation with the workforce.
“Whilst we regret the redundancies which will take place we are pleased to have formulated a proposal for the restructure of Wyndeham Impact which will provide added capacity for cover production and greater flexibility at times of peak production,” said Paul Utting, Chief Executive, Wyndeham Press Group. “By focusing on our core publishing clients we believe we can provide an improved service to customers and secure the future of the business.”
