Wyndeham Group News > Paddy’s Marathon run to help Africa’s 50 million disabled children
Wyndeham Grange Production Manager Paddy O’Reilly is taking on a marathon challenge to help some of Africa’s 50 million disabled children. Paddy will join thousands of other runners in this year’s London Marathon in an attempt to raise £2,000 for the Charity AbleChildAfrica.
Paddy, 39, a father of five said: “I visited Africa a few years ago and saw the amazing spirit of the people despite their difficult circumstances. Running the marathon is going to be a real challenge but nothing compared to the challenges that disabled children in Africa have to overcome. I’m really pleased to have the chance to make a difference and my family is being really supportive and keeping me motivated.”
Paddy is one of forty people who will be running the London Marathon in aid of AbleChildAfrica. He is hoping to finally complete the course in less than four hours after narrowly missing out two years ago.
Mary Ann Mhina, director of AbleChildAfrica who ran the London Marathon in 2008, said: “We are delighted that Paddy is taking on this huge challenge to support AbleChildAfrica. There are 50 million disabled children in Africa facing early deaths, neglect, abuse and extreme poverty. That’s why we work with our partner organizations in Africa to give all disabled children the health care, education and employment opportunities they deserve. We’re a small charity with a big vision. We believe that every disabled person can help build a better future for Africa. But we can only do that with the support of extraordinary people like Paddy.”
